This scavenger hunt isn't quite as spicy as it sounds at first glance, but it would be great for a picnic, reunion, or a bachelorette party, with a little editing. About 30 of my coworkers and I just went on an overnight camping trip for the camping experience and team building, so I created this hunt to create some fun memories. Everyone loved it, and we have so many great photos.
So, I thought I'd adapt it for a picnic or outing and share it with you. You'll find it as a freebie at the end of this article.
I work for an online distributor of outdoor recreational products. In the last few years, our business has grown exponentially, so we have a lot of new teammates. Most of us are avid outdoor enthusiasts, but some aren't. Over the summer, different departments took their teams camping to bond and gain experience using the products and doing the activities our customers love to do. As a company, we're really good about getting our hands on products at the office to learn about them, but using them on a personal level while doing the activities they're meant for helps us understand the problems they solve - which helps us write more customer-focused copy.
In the days leading up to our trip, the weather app had changed the forecast half a dozen times, so we packed indoor games just in case the rain we were supposed to get came.
And it did.
We'd been talking about this trip for months. I was on the planning team and organized kayaking, cornhole, horseshoes, fishing, and a photo scavenger hunt. It rained most of the day, but we didn't let that ruin our fun.
Inside the main cabin, we played board games, learned the ukulele, and chatted. A few of us braved the rain to fish the river. We didn't catch anything, but we had fun trying.
My planning team looked forward to the scavenger hunt the most because it encouraged everyone to mingle with people we may not work closely with during our day-to-day activities. It also gave us a fun way to create some memories, and I would say it did.
Once the rain let up, I passed the scavenger hunt out, and everyone took off throughout the campground. We have our very own Beatles cover, tons of happy and silly camper images, and my favorite, a pic of my work bestie playing possum while lying on the ground, complete with her arms and feet in the air. (I couldn't get my hands on that photo for this post, but I tried.)
As the evening went on, we sat around the campfire, told ghost stories, and played Cards Against Humanity before retiring for the night. I slept in my truck bed tent and awoke in the early morning to rain pattering the material above me, but I was lulled back to sleep nearly as quickly as I awoke.
The next morning, we gathered after breakfast and discussed our favorite experiences. Some of my teammates said they loved that it rained because it caused us to huddle together in the cabin and play games where we may have scattered had the weather been ideal. Many of them said something from the scavenger hunt was their favorite moment.
I was so excited to hear how much everyone enjoyed the scavenger hunt! And now, I want to share it with you. Fill out the form below to get your free photo scavenger hunt!
