Last year, I had the privilege of being a part of the Christmas tree planting process with Janette and Dewey Ellens. Standing alongside them, I was struck by how much care and intention went into each seedling. Every tree placed in the ground was more than just a future holiday centerpiece. I saw each tiny tree as the start of something bigger. We are fortunate to own 10 acres of property with the surrounding acreage being owned by such wonderful people. Together, we share a deep connection to this special land and the significance it holds.
Although we didn’t plant our own trees, we’re fortunate to witness their slow and steady growth, knowing that one day they will bring joy to families. I remember the first few visits to the farm when all the acres were filled with big, beautiful trees. It was this way for several years until the trees were harvested. At that time, I felt a bit sad and empty, having grown attached to the beauty of the landscape. But over time, I realized the joy those trees bring to countless families during the holiday season. I also came to understand how the soil needs time to regenerate after many seasons of growth, and that realization brought me a new sense of appreciation for the cycle of life on the farm.
When we moved to the farm, I knew it was the perfect place to bring my idea of intentional living to life. Intentional living is all about living each day to its fullest, with passion and purpose. It’s about creating a space for joy, mindfulness, and meaning, while connecting to the natural healing we have access to. I knew this farm would be the perfect place to invite others to experience that same sense of joy and renewal.
Spring always offers me a fresh perspective after a long, quiet winter. It’s a season of renewal, where new ideas I have created from the stillness of winter begin to bloom. Whether through the trees, the landscape, or the moments created here, spring reminds me that every new beginning holds unlimited potential.
I feel blessed to call Janette and Dewey not only friends but also a source of support and encouragement. Janette still uses the equipment her father once used to plant the trees, continuing the dream her parents started. It’s inspiring to see how she honors their legacy and vision through the work she does. Along with our neighbors, Rob and Rhonda Ide, and other friends who help us care for the property, we are surrounded by a community that makes this farm a wonderful place to plant our roots.
Although I sometimes wish our 5 acres of tiny trees were a bit taller so I could get lost in the rows, seeing them grow year after year reminds me that there’s no rush. Each season of growth brings them one step closer to the day they will be harvested, and then a new season of growth will begin. It serves as a reminder that every season has its purpose, and we’re always moving forward, even if it feels slow at times. There’s a certain magic to this farm that I want others to experience. The farm magic inspires me to create a space where others can experience peace, joy, and renewal.
The Power of Planting with Intention
Watching Janette and Dewey work, I saw firsthand how every detail matters: the depth of the hole, the placement of the roots, and the care given to each tree. The same is true in life. Every choice we make, every habit we nurture, and every step we take toward our dreams is a seed we plant for the future.
It’s easy to get impatient, wanting quick results, whether in business, relationships, or personal growth. But just like these trees, real success takes time. Some seasons are for visible growth, and others are for strengthening our roots.
Ask yourself:
What seeds am I planting in my life right now?
Am I giving them the time and care they need to grow?
Am I focusing only on immediate results, or am I trusting the process?
Rooted Resilience: Strength in Stillness
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from watching these trees grow is that their strength doesn’t come from how quickly they sprout, it comes from their roots. A tree that takes the time to establish deep roots can withstand the strongest storms.
Life works the same way. The stronger our foundation and the clearer we are on our values, purpose, and direction, the easier we handle what life has in store for us both good and bad.
Ways to Grow Resilience:
Ground Yourself in Your Purpose: What truly matters to you? Reconnecting with your values helps you stay strong during difficult times.
Embrace Seasons of Rest: Just as trees have dormant seasons, we need time to recharge and grow inwardly before blooming again.
Trust the Process: Growth isn’t always visible, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. Every challenge, every lesson, and every small action is shaping you.
A Season for Growth
Spring is an invitation to plant new seeds, deepen our roots, and embrace the journey of growth in both seen and unseen. It’s also a chance to bring fresh beauty into the world, whether through the land we nurture, the ideas we bring to life, or the experiences we create for others. Whether it’s in business, personal goals, or everyday life, the most important thing is to keep planting, nurturing, and trusting.
What seeds are you planting this season? How are you strengthening your roots?
